What We've Been Doing.

This post was inspired my my mother-in-law, who emailed me this morning about what we've been up to . . . this was my reply.

Since graduating Rob and I have been working a few odd jobs to keep the money rolling in. One of the jobs we've been working on together is for the Geology Department on campus. Rob has worked for them over the last few years with his main focus on getting a touch screen database system in the Museum up and running. The goal for that system is to display an image and information about every mineralogical and fossil sample that is on display in the museum. Our job, that we've been working on since January, has been taking all of the photographs. As of last night, we have taken 1,092 of 1400 images. Our contract stated that we would have all the images taken by this Saturday, April 9th . . . so we have another 308 samples to photograph . . . It's possible, it's just a lot of work to cram into four days.

We are planning on moving up to Alaska this summer. Another job we've been working on has been for the company that has hired us to drive the motor coaches in Skagway. We've been training to drive the buses, and working to get our CDL's. My last session of training is today, Rob's was last Friday. We will both take our CDL driving tests on Saturday. Busy busy.

Over the last few weeks we have also been packing up our apartment. We've been gathering produce boxes from the grocery store slowly over the last month, and have already moved seven boxes--all the books--to their storage place in Utah (at a friends house in the SLC area). We've sold our big dresser and nightstand table, and in it's place have stacked about fifteen packed boxes. We are also planning on selling a large desk, a bike, a set of drawers, and our bed before leaving. All of our clothes are packed, except what we're taking to Alaska, as are most of our small appliances and cds, dvds, and cookware that we won't be using before the move. Although our lease is through the end of the month, our landlords want us to move out by the 19th so that they can fill the apartment with new tenants before summer semester. As long as we can get all of the samples shot, we see that as likely happening.

So, the last few months have kept us busy, and we are almost ready to leave Rexburg. It's weird, considering we've lived in the same place for the last four years. We can't wait to see what the future holds for us.

The Turkey

I used a new recipe/method this time around and didn't use a turkey bag. I slathered a melted butter and lemon zest and juice concoction on it instead and it turned out AH MAY ZING. Yeah buddy.

Since I'm on top of things like that . . .

I feel like lately I've been getting better at posting more often. This is because of a few things:
  • the Droid makes it way too easy
  • I've got fun stuff to show off
  • since finishing my crazy block religion class I've got a LOT more time
  • I'm blogging for another class, which makes blogging here easier
Regardless of these reasons though, I just plain old do like blogging. I like it when people comment too, because that way I know who's staking me . . . anyway.

The last week was good for me creatively. Picts:

I was lucky enough to do the wedding flowers for one of Rob's cousin's. I made eight bouquets, four bouts, and two wrist corsages for the occasion. Having not worked with flowers since August, it reminded me of how much I LOVE designing flowers. What made this such a great experience too was that I wasn't a part of the wedding party, so things were a lot less stressful for me than they were in August too . . . I think I'm going to upload some of those images too, since I haven't done that yet . . . anyway.

For the wedding I used Ocean Song roses, Queen Anne's Lace, Plumosa fern, Dusty Miller, and white hydrangeas . . . yes, I said that right. WHITE hydrangeas. I used Just for Flowers color tool and "painted" them purple. Florists are so tricky sometimes.

I also got my own website "up". Check http://kwheelwright.com. There obviously isn't much there yet, but it links to my weebly portfolio site, and it has my contact information, so I think that's good enough for now. I designed the graphic and wrote the html and css for the page, so I'm feeling pretty proud of myself. *pats self on back* AND DID YOU SEE THE FAVICON? Yeah, I made that too.

And yes, I am going to make a turkey tomorrow as well. :)

Cold.

I was out shooting this morning, trying to get some inspiration for a couple of assignments that are due tomorrow. The mornings have dropped below freezing. Of all days I of course didn't wear my long underwear, wool socks, gloves, or a scarf today. So here I am, waiting for the light to get right, shivering my patoskie off.

Our Little Puker!

Here is our pumpkin for the year. We have to lure kids up to the third floor by setting one out, otherwise we get no trick-or-treaters, as evidenced by the first two years here, but last year we got six. I'm hoping for more this year so that Rob doesn't eat all the twix by himself. :)

Oh, and other good news! Rob has decided to do the Florida Keys Ragnar Relay in January. AKA, we're going to Florida in January! It's going to be our Christmas/Graduation presents to ourselves. Yeah, we graduate in 49 days-December 18th. For those of you that are interested in more info about times and such, I'll post it and email it out as soon as we get it.

Another fun note is that Rob will be presenting at the AGU Conference the week of Graduation, in San Francisco, so scheduling might be crazy for us. But, 49 days! Hurrah!
